What & Why
Stress is your body's way of reacting to a challenge or demand. Think of it as an internal alarm system. When you face a challenge (a 'stressor'), your body releases hormones like adrenaline that prepare you to act.But not all stress is bad! There are two main types:Eustress (Friend): This is positive stress. It's the kind that motivates you, helps you focus, and can even feel exciting. It helps you rise to a challenge, like scoring the winning goal.Distress (Foe): This is negative stress. It's the kind that feels overwhelming, makes you anxious, and can make it hard to think or act. It happens when a challenge feels too big to handle.Learning to tell the difference helps you use the 'friend' stress to your advantage and manage the 'foe' stress before it takes over.

Example 1 — The Big Game
Imagine you're about to play in the basketball championship. Here's how stress can be a friend (eustress):The Stressor: The pressure of the big game.Your Body's Reaction: Your heart beats faster, your breathing quickens, and you feel 'butterflies' in your stomach. This is adrenaline! The Feeling: You feel energized, alert, and ready to go. You're not scared; you're 'pumped up'.The Outcome: This energy helps you run faster, jump higher, and focus intensely on the game. Your stress is helping you perform at your best.

Example 2 — The Pop Quiz
Now, imagine your teacher suddenly announces a pop quiz in a subject you find difficult. Here's how stress can be a foe (distress):The Stressor: The unexpected and difficult quiz.Your Body's Reaction: Your heart pounds, your palms get sweaty, and you might feel a headache coming on.The Feeling: You feel panicked and overwhelmed. Your mind might go blank. The Outcome: Instead of helping you focus, this stress makes it impossible to remember what you studied. It's getting in the way of your ability to think clearly.
