What & Why

The Daily 60-Minute Play Challenge is a goal to be physically active for at least 60 minutes every single day. Physical activity is any movement that gets your heart beating a little faster and your body working. Why 60 minutes? Because that's the amount of activity that helps your body and brain the most! It helps you:Build strong bones and muscles.Keep a healthy heart.Feel happier and less stressed.Sleep better at night.Have more energy to learn and play. The best part? You don't have to do it all at once! You can break it up into smaller chunks of fun throughout the day.

Example 1 — Maya's Mixed-Up Monday

Maya has a busy school day, but she still finds ways to reach her 60-minute goal by breaking it up. Here’s how she does it:Morning (15 mins): She walks to school with her dad instead of getting a ride.Recess (20 mins): She plays tag and swings on the monkey bars with her friends. After School (10 mins): She puts on her favorite music and has a dance party in her room. Before Dinner (15 mins): She plays fetch with her dog in the backyard.Total Time: 15 + 20 + 10 + 15 = 60 minutes! Maya met her goal without even realizing it was a challenge.

Here's his plan:Morning (20 mins): He follows along with a fun kids' workout video online.Afternoon (15 mins): He builds an awesome pillow and blanket fort, which involves lots of lifting and crawling.Afternoon (10 mins): He has a 'speed-clean' race to see how fast he can put his toys away.Evening (15 mins): He does some simple yoga and stretching with his mom.Total Time: 20 + 15 + 10 + 15 = 60 minutes! Leo proved that a rainy day can't stop the play.
