What & Why
Sometimes we think that winning is the only thing that matters. But what if we celebrated the hard work, the trying, and the learning instead? That's called celebrating effort. When we focus only on winning, we might be afraid to try new or difficult things because we worry we might fail. But when we focus on effort, we see challenges as chances to get better. This is a Growth Mindset!Growth Mindset: Believing you can get smarter and better at things by trying hard and practicing.Fixed Mindset: Believing your talents are set and you're either good at something or you're not.Celebrating effort helps us build a growth mindset, making us brave enough to tackle any challenge!

Example 1 — The Relay Race
Imagine your team is in a big relay race at field day. You are the last runner. The Challenge: The other team's runner is very fast, and they are ahead of you when you get the baton. The Effort: You remember your coach's advice to keep your arms pumping and your eyes forward. You run as hard as you possibly can, focusing on your own race and not giving up.The Outcome: You don't win first place, but you run your fastest time ever and you close the gap!The Celebration: Your teammates don't say, "Too bad we lost." They say, "Wow, you were flying! That was an amazing effort!" You all feel proud because everyone tried their absolute best.

Example 2 — The Science Fair Project
Jasmine is building a model volcano for the science fair. She wants it to actually erupt. The Challenge: She mixes baking soda and vinegar, but the 'lava' just fizzes a little and doesn't flow down the sides. She tries three times, and it keeps failing. The Effort: Jasmine feels frustrated, but instead of quitting, she decides to research the problem. She reads online and learns she needs to add soap and use a smaller bottle opening. She keeps adjusting her recipe. The Outcome: On her fifth try, the volcano erupts perfectly! It's not the biggest one at the fair, but it works. The Celebration: Jasmine is proud not because she might win a ribbon, but because she solved a tricky problem by sticking with it and learning from her mistakes. She celebrated the process of figuring it out.
