Subjunctive for Wishes and Emotions (WEIRDO)
Main Clause (Indicative) + 'que' + Subordinate Clause (Subjunctive)
When the main clause expresses a Wish, Emotion, Impersonal Expression, Recommendation, Doubt, or Ojalá (WEIRDO), the verb in the clause that follows 'que' must be in the subjunctive. For this lesson, we focus on Wishes (Quiero que...) and Emotions (Me alegro de que...).
Expressing Purpose with 'para que'
Main Clause + 'para que' + Subordinate Clause (Subjunctive)
Use this structure to explain the purpose of an action when the subject of the main clause is different from the subject of the subordinate clause. 'Para que' always triggers the subjunctive.
