Grammar Rules & Patterns
The Gender Matching Rule
If the noun is masculine (often ends in -o), use ¿Cuánto? or ¿Cuántos?. If the noun is feminine (often ends in -a), use ¿Cuánta? or ¿Cuántas?.
The ending of '¿cuánto?' must match the gender of the noun you are asking about. Think of them as puzzle pieces that have to fit together.
The Number Matching Rule
If the noun is singular (one), use ¿Cuánto? or ¿Cuánta?. If the noun is plural (more than one, often ends in -s), use ¿Cuántos? or ¿Cuántas?.
The ending of '¿cuánto?' must also match if the noun is singular or plural. If the noun has an -s at the end, '¿cuánto?' probably needs one too!
The Four-Square Formula
1. Masculine + Singular = ¿Cuánto?
2. Feminine + Singular = ¿Cuánta?
