Analyze sentences to determine if the subjunctive is triggered by a 'que' clause. Translate sentences from English to Spanish that express wishes for another person, correctly applying the subjunctive. Have you...

It depends on the main clause for its full meaning. In 'Yo quiero que tú limpies tu cuarto,' the subordinate clause is 'que tú limpies tu cuarto.' Verbo de Influencia (Trigger Verb)A verb in the main clause that expresses a wish, desire, command, recommendation, or emotion. This verb 'triggers' the use of the su...

Grammar Rules & Patterns

The Subjunctive Trigger Formula Subject 1 + Trigger Verb (Indicative) + QUE + Subject 2 + Subjunctive Verb This is the fundamental pattern. When the main clause has a verb of will or influence (like 'querer', 'esperar', 'recomendar') and the subject changes after 'que', the verb in the second clause must be in the subjunctive. The 'No Change of Subject' Rule Subject 1 + Trigger Verb + INFINITIVE If the person expressing the wish is also the person who will perform the action (i.e., the subject does not change), you do not use 'que' or the subjunctive. Instead, you simply use the infinitive form of the second verb. For example, 'Yo quiero salir' (I want to leave), not 'Yo quiero que yo salga.'...
