The Subjunctive Trigger Formula
Subject 1 + Trigger Verb (Indicative) + QUE + Subject 2 + Subjunctive Verb
This is the fundamental pattern. When the main clause has a verb of will or influence (like 'querer', 'esperar', 'recomendar') and the subject changes after 'que', the verb in the second clause must be in the subjunctive.
The 'No Change of Subject' Rule
Subject 1 + Trigger Verb + INFINITIVE
If the person expressing the wish is also the person who will perform the action (i.e., the subject does not change), you do not use 'que' or the subjunctive. Instead, you simply use the infinitive form of the second verb. For example, 'Yo quiero salir' (I want to leave), not 'Yo quiero que yo salga.'...
