Gender Endings: -o and -a Use '-o' for boys. Use '-a' for girls. In Spanish, many words for people end in -o for a boy and -a for a girl. Look at the last letter! Herman-O is a boy. Herman-A is a girl. Saying 'I have' Tengo + un/una + noun To say you have one brother or one sister, you say 'Tengo un hermano' or 'Tengo una hermana'. 'Un' is for boys, 'una' is for girls.
