Core Formulas
Coin Value Summation Rule
$$ \text{Total Value (in cents)} = (N_p \times 1) + (N_n \times 5) + (N_d \times 10) + (N_q \times 25) $$
To find the total value of a collection of coins, multiply the number of each type of coin ($N_p$ for pennies, $N_n$ for nickels, $N_d$ for dimes, $N_q$ for quarters) by its respective cent value, and then add all these products together. This gives you the total in cents.
Standard Money Notation Rule
$$ \text{Total Value} = \$D.CC $$
After calculating the total value in cents, convert it to dollars and cents notation. If the total is less than 100 cents, it is written as $0.XX, where XX is the number of cents. If it is 100 cents, it is written as $1.00. Always use two digits after the decimal point for cents.
