The Core Rule Pattern = [Core] + [Core] + [Core] + ... To understand or make a repeating pattern, first identify or create a 'core'. The entire pattern is just that core repeated over and over. The Letter Rule (Describing Patterns) Assign a letter to each unique term in the core. For example: (Square, Circle, Circle) becomes (A, B, B). Use this rule to describe any pattern, no matter what the terms are (shapes, sounds, etc.). This helps you see the structure of the pattern more clearly.
