The Rounding Rule Look at the digit to the right of your target place. If the digit is \ge 5, round up. If the digit is < 5, round down. This is the main rule for all rounding. The numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 tell you to round down (keep the target digit the same). The numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 tell you to round up (add one to the target digit). Rounding to the Nearest Ten For a number with tens digit T and ones digit O: If O \ge 5, round to (T+1)0. If O < 5, round to T0. To round to the nearest ten, you must look at the digit in the ones place. For example, for 63, the ones digit is 3 (< 5), so we round down to 60.
