Core Formulas
Standard Form to Expanded Form
Number(Th, H, T, O) = (Th \times 1000) + (H \times 100) + (T \times 10) + (O \times 1)
To convert a number to expanded form, find the value of each digit and write it as an addition sentence. For 2,345, the 2 is 2000, the 3 is 300, the 4 is 40, and the 5 is 5. So, it's 2000 + 300 + 40 + 5.
Expanded Form to Standard Form
Value_1 + Value_2 + ... = Standard Number
To convert from expanded form, add the values together. The easiest way is to use a place value chart and put each value in the correct column. For 800 + 20 + 7, you place 8 in the hundreds, 2 in the tens, and 7 in the ones to get 827.
