Plus Sign (+)This little sign tells us to add the numbers together. It looks like a small 't'.When you see 3 + 4, the plus sign means 'add 3 and 4'.
Equals Sign (=)This sign means 'is the same as'. It shows what the total is.In 6 + 1 = 7, the equals sign shows that 6 + 1 is the same as 7.
SumThe sum is the total you get when you add numbers. It's the answer! In 2 + 5 = 7, the number 7 is the sum.

Core Formulas
The Addition Sentence Structure
Part + Part = Whole
We write the first group (part), a plus sign, the second group (part), an equals sign, and then the total (whole).
The Order Rule (Commutative Property)
a + b = b + a
You can switch the numbers you are adding, and the answer will stay the same! 2 + 6 is the same as 6 + 2.
