Part-Part-Whole (Addition) Part + Part = Whole When you know two small parts, you add them together to find the big whole number. Whole-Part-Part (Subtraction) Whole - Part = Part When you know the whole and one part, you subtract to find the other missing part. The Flip-Flop Rule (Commutative Property) a + b = b + a You can add numbers in any order and get the same answer! 3 + 4 is the same as 4 + 3.
