The Hook

You have a huge science test tomorrow. You know you need to study. But suddenly, scrolling through videos or even cleaning your room feels like the most important thing in the world. The Story

Mateo had a big science test on Friday. On Tuesday, he told himself he'd start after one more video. An hour later, he was still scrolling. On Wednesday, he decided to clean his room—something he never does—just to avoid opening his textbook. He felt that familiar, sinking feeling of guilt. He was stuck in the cycle. He remembered reading that starting was the hardest part. So, he made a deal with himself. He put his phone in the kitchen, set a timer for 25 minutes, and said, "I only have to do this for 25 minutes." When the timer went off, he had already finished reviewing a whole chapter. He realized the two days he spent stressing were way worse than the 25 minutes of actual work.
