How to Form the Present ConditionalRule: To form the present conditional, you take the stem (the base) of the verb from the simple future tense and add the imperfect endings: -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient. For most verbs, the future simple stem is just the infinitive. Example (parler (to speak) [par-LAY]): Je parlerais (I would speak) [zhuh par-luh-RAY], tu parlerais (you would speak) [too par-luh-RAY], il/elle parlerait (he/she would speak) [eel/el par-luh-RAY], nous parlerions (we would speak) [noo par-luh-ree-OHN], vous parleriez (you would speak) [voo par-luh-ree-AY], ils/elles parleraient (they would speak) [eel/el par-luh-RAY].Use 1: PolitenessRule: We use the conditional to make a request or ask a question politely.
