The Synonym Swap Rule If you can swap a key word in one sentence with a synonym to make the second sentence, they have the same meaning. Use this rule to test if two sentences match. Find the key word, think of a synonym, and see if that synonym is in the other sentence. The Whole Meaning Rule Read the entire sentence, not just one word. The whole idea of the sentence must match. Don't get tricked by sentences that share one word but talk about different things. The complete thought must be the same.
