Key Rules & Conventions

The -s Rule Base Word + s For most nouns, simply add an -s to the end to make it plural. The -es Rule Base Word + es If a noun ends in s, x, z, ch, or sh, add -es to make it plural. This makes the word easier to say! The -ies Rule Change y to i, then add es If a noun ends in a consonant followed by a 'y', change the 'y' to an 'i' and then add -es. The -ves Rule Change f or fe to v, then add es For many nouns that end in 'f' or 'fe', change the 'f' or 'fe' to a 'v' and then add -es.
