The Punctuation Rule
Every sentence needs an end mark.
Statements end with a period (.). Questions end with a question mark (?). Exclamations end with an exclamation mark (!). Commands usually end with a period (.), but can end with an exclamation mark (!) if the command is said with strong feeling.
The Purpose Rule
Every sentence has a job or purpose.
Think about what the sentence is doing. Is it TELLING? It's a statement. Is it ASKING? It's a question. Is it ORDERING? It's a command. Is it SHOUTING with feeling? It's an exclamation.
