The '-ed' Ending Rule
Base Verb + ed = Past Tense Verb
This is the biggest clue! To find a regular past tense verb, look for an action word that ends in '-ed'. This tells you the action happened in the past.
The Action Test
Ask: 'Is this something a person or thing can DO?'
Before you decide a word ending in '-ed' is a verb, make sure it's an action. For example, in 'He kicked the ball,' you can 'kick' something. It's an action.

Ask: 'Did this happen in the past?'
