Key Rules & Conventions
The Word + Word Formula
Word 1 + Word 2 = Compound Word
To form a compound word, you take one complete word and add another complete word right after it with no space. Both small words must make sense on their own.
The New Meaning Rule
Meaning of Word 1 + Meaning of Word 2 ≈ New Meaning
The new compound word has its own meaning, which is usually a combination of the two smaller words. Thinking about the small words helps you guess the big word's meaning. For example, a 'treehouse' is a house in a tree.
