Read the words before and after the mystery word.
Don't just look at the one word you don't know. The rest of the sentence has clues! These clues can define the word or give an example of it.
The 'Swap Test' Rule
Try replacing the word with a possible synonym.
After you find a word you think is a synonym, try swapping it with the original word in the sentence. If the sentence still makes sense and has the same meaning, you've likely found a good synonym!
