Key Rules & Conventions

The Mirror Rule Use a reflexive pronoun (-self, -selves) when the subject and the object are the same. If the action of the verb 'reflects' back on the person doing it, use a reflexive pronoun. Think of the subject looking in a mirror and seeing itself. The Different People Rule Use a personal pronoun (me, him, her, us, them) when the subject and the object are different. If the action of the verb goes from the subject to a different person or thing, use a personal pronoun for the object.
