Key Rules & Conventions

The Proper Noun Capital Letter Rule Proper nouns ALWAYS start with a capital letter. Use this rule for special names. It shows the word is important! For example, we write 'Paris', not 'paris'. The Common Noun Rule Common nouns do not start with a capital letter. Use this for general words. The only time a common noun gets a capital is if it starts a sentence.
