Key Rules & Conventions

The 'Whose Is It?' Rule Possessive pronouns always answer the question 'Whose?' When you see a blank, ask 'Whose bike?' or 'Whose book?' to find the right word. Before a Noun or All Alone? Some pronouns go BEFORE a noun. Some stand ALONE. Use my, your, her, his, its, our, their BEFORE a noun (my coat). Use mine, yours, hers, his, ours, theirs ALONE (The coat is mine). No Apostrophes! 🚫 Possessive pronouns never, ever use an apostrophe ('s). It's always 'hers', 'its', 'ours', 'yours', 'theirs'. Never 'her's' or 'it's' (for owning).
