The Progressive Tense Formula [form of 'to be'] + [present participle (-ing verb)] This is the universal structure for all progressive tenses. To change the tense, you simply change the conjugation of the auxiliary verb 'to be' (e.g., 'is' for present, 'was/were' for past, 'will be' for future, 'has/have been' for present perfect).
