Key Rules & Conventions

Look for Time Words 🕒 Words like 'First', 'Next', 'Then', and 'Last' are clues. These special words help you know the order. 'First' is the start. 'Last' is the end. Find the Beginning The first sentence starts the story. Ask yourself, 'Which sentence makes sense to happen first?' It often introduces who or what the story is about. Find the End The last sentence finishes the story. Ask yourself, 'Which sentence feels like it's all done?' It might tell how someone feels at the end.
