The Clue Words Rule
Look for the words First, Next, Then, and Last.
These words are clues! They tell you the order of the steps in a story or in directions.
The Start of the Sentence Rule
Time-order words often hide at the beginning of a sentence.
When you read, look right at the start of each sentence to find the time-order clue word.
