What Is Resistance Training?

Resistance training is any exercise that causes your muscles to work against a weight or force. This doesn't mean you have to lift super heavy weights! The 'resistance' can come from your own bodyweight, stretchy resistance bands, or light dumbbells. It's all about challenging your muscles in a safe and controlled way.

Why It's Great for You

When done correctly, resistance training helps build stronger muscles and bones, which can improve your performance in sports and other activities. It can also help with your posture and give you more energy throughout the day. The goal is to feel strong, capable, and confident in your movements.

The Golden Rules: Safety First!

For teens 13 and up, safety is the number one priority. Always warm up your body before you start with 5 minutes of light cardio, like jogging in place or jumping jacks. Most importantly, always have a qualified adult like a coach or trainer supervise you, especially when you're learning something new.
