The Tens (Las Decenas)
The tens from 50 to 90 are single, unique words: cincuenta (50), sesenta (60), setenta (70), ochenta (80), noventa (90).
Memorize these five key 'base' words. They are the foundation for forming all other numbers in this range (except 100).
Formula for Compound Numbers (31-99)
[Decena] + y + [Unidad]
To form any number from 51 to 99, start with the word for the tens place, add the word 'y' (and), and then add the word for the ones place. This results in a three-word construction.
The Rule of 'Cien'
Use 'cien' for exactly 100. Use 'ciento' for numbers from 101 to 199.
