Grammar Rules & Patterns
Using the Verb 'Doler'
(A + persona) + pronombre de objeto indirecto + duele/duelen + (artículo definido) + parte del cuerpo.
Similar to 'gustar', 'doler' (to hurt/ache) uses indirect object pronouns (me, te, le, nos, os, les). Use 'duele' for singular body parts (la cabeza) and 'duelen' for plural ones (los oídos).
Definite Articles with Body Parts
Use definite articles (el, la, los, las) instead of possessive adjectives (mi, tu, su) when the owner of the body part is clear from the context, especially with reflexive verbs or verbs like 'doler'.
Instead of saying 'Me duele mi cabeza', the natural Spanish phrasing is 'Me duele la cabeza'. The 'me' already indicates it's your head....
