Take the *ellos/ellas/ustedes* form of the preterite indicative, drop the '-ron' ending, and add the imperfect subjunctive endings: -ra, -ras, -ra, -ramos, -rais, -ran (most common for politeness) OR -se, -ses, -se, -semos, -seis, -sen (also correct).
This rule applies to all verbs, including irregular ones, as the irregularity is already present in the preterite stem. This is the foundational step for using the tense.
Uso para Peticiones y Deseos Amables (Quisiera/Pudiera)
Use 'quisiera' (from *querer*) or 'pudiera' (from *poder*) + infinitive to make polite requests or express desires.
These forms are extremely common and are direct translations of 'I would like to...' or 'Could I...?'...
