Grammar Rules & Patterns

Forming Affirmative Tú Commands Use the él/ella/usted form of the verb in the present tense. To create a basic informal command for most verbs, you simply conjugate it for the third-person singular. For example, for 'hablar', the él/ella form is 'habla', which is also the command form. The 'Attach & Accent' Rule 1. Attach the pronoun to the end of the command. 2. Count back 3 vowels from the end. 3. If the original stress was on that vowel, add an accent mark. When you attach a pronoun to an affirmative command, you create a longer word. To keep the original emphasis, you often need to add a written accent. The stress usually falls on the second-to-last syllable of the original command.
