Introduction & Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives Identify the stem and ending of regular -AR verbs. Conjugate regular -AR verbs in the present tense for yo, tú, él, ella, nosotros, and ellos. Match subject pronouns with the correct present tense -AR verb ending. Form simple, correct sentences using common -AR verbs. Use -AR verbs to describe common actions like talking, studying, and singing. Answer simple questions using -AR verbs. What do you do every day? 🏃‍♀️ Do you talk, play, or sing? Let's learn how to say these action words in Spanish! In this lesson, we will practice using a special group of action words called -AR verbs. Learning how to change them helps us tell our friends and family what we are doing right now, like 'Yo hablo' (I talk) or 'Ellos cantan' (They sing)...

Grammar Rules & Patterns

The Two-Step Conjugation Rule 1. Drop the -AR. 2. Add the new ending. This is the secret recipe for changing any regular -AR verb. First, find the stem by taking off the -AR. Then, add the special ending that matches the person doing the action. The -AR Present Tense Endings yo: -o, tú: -as, él/ella/usted: -a, nosotros/as: -amos, ellos/ellas/ustedes: -an These are the only endings you need for regular -AR verbs in the present tense. You must memorize which ending goes with which pronoun. Subject-Verb Agreement The verb ending MUST match the subject pronoun. Just like puzzle pieces, the subject and the verb ending have to fit together perfectly. You can't say 'Yo hablas' because 'yo' only fits with '-o'.
