Plotting an Ordered Pair (x, y)
Start at the origin (0,0). Move 'x' units horizontally along the x-axis. Then, from that spot, move 'y' units vertically.
This is the fundamental rule for placing any data point on a graph. A positive 'x' means move right, negative 'x' means move left. A positive 'y' means move up, negative 'y' means move down.
Linear Function Form
y = mx + b
Many line graphs represent linear functions. In this form, 'm' is the slope (the steepness of the line) and 'b' is the y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis). You can use this equation to generate ordered pairs to plot.
