Identify the Rounding Place
Locate the digit in the place value you are rounding to.
This is the first step: understand which place (e.g., ones, tenths, hundredths) you need to round to. The digit in that position is your 'rounding digit'.
Look at the Decision Digit
Examine the digit immediately to the right of the rounding digit.
This 'decision digit' tells you whether to change your rounding digit or keep it the same. It's the key to your rounding choice.
Apply the Rounding Rule
If the decision digit is 5 or greater (5, 6, 7, 8, 9), round the rounding digit UP by adding 1. If the decision digit is less than 5 (0, 1, 2, 3, 4), keep the rounding digit the same (round DOWN).
