Key Concepts & Vocabulary
TermDefinitionExample
FractionA number that represents a part of a whole. It is written as a numerator over a denominator.1/2 means one part out of two equal parts.
Mixed NumberA number that combines a whole number and a fraction.2 1/3 means two whole units and one-third of another unit.
Improper FractionA fraction where the numerator (top number) is greater than or equal to the denominator (bottom number).7/3 is an improper fraction because 7 is greater than 3.
Whole NumberAny of the natural numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, ...) without fractions or decimals.5 is a whole number.
NumeratorThe top number in a fraction, which tells you how many parts of the whole you have.In 3/4, the numerator is 3.
DenominatorThe bottom number in a fraction, which tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided in...

Core Formulas
Converting Mixed Number to Improper Fraction
$A \frac{B}{C} = \frac{(A \times C) + B}{C}$
To convert a mixed number to an improper fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator, add the numerator, and place the result over the original denominator.
Converting Whole Number to Fraction
$N = \frac{N}{1}$
To convert a whole number to a fraction, simply write the whole number as the numerator with 1 as the denominator.
Multiplying Three or More Fractions
$\frac{A}{B} \times \frac{C}{D} \times \frac{E}{F} = \frac{A \times C \times E}{B \times D \times F}$
To multiply three or more fractions, multiply all the numerators together to get the new numerator, and multiply all the denominators together to get the new denominator. Simplify the result if possible.
Simp...
