Tally Mark Grouping Rule
For every four vertical tally marks, the fifth tally mark is drawn diagonally across the first four to form a bundle of five: $||||$
This rule helps you count large numbers quickly and accurately by grouping tallies into fives. It makes it easier to see how many items are in each category at a glance.
Frequency Calculation Rule
The frequency for any category is the total number of tally marks in its row, converted into a numerical value.
After creating a tally chart, you count the tally marks for each category and write that number in the 'Frequency' column. This gives you the numerical count for each item.
