TermDefinitionExample
DivisionThe mathematical operation of splitting a number into equal parts or groups. If you have $10 and want to share it equally among 2 friends, you use division: $10 \div 2 = $5.
DividendThe number being divided in a division problem. In money problems, it's usually the total amount of money. In $12.50 \div 5$, the dividend is $12.50.
DivisorThe number by which the dividend is divided. In money problems, it's often the number of parts or people. In $12.50 \div 5$, the divisor is 5.
QuotientThe result of a division problem. In money problems, it's the amount in each equal part.In $12.50 \div 5 = $2.50, the quotient is $2.50.

Core Formulas
Standard Division Algorithm
$\text{Dividend} \div \text{Divisor} = \text{Quotient}$
This is the fundamental structure for any division problem. Identify the total amount (dividend) and the number of equal parts (divisor) to find the amount in each part (quotient).
Dividing Decimals (Money)
When dividing a decimal by a whole number, place the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the dividend.
This rule ensures that your dollars and cents remain in their correct places. Perform long division as usual, but remember to bring the decimal point straight up into your answer before you start dividing the digits after it.
Rounding Money to the Nearest Cent
If the division results in more than two decimal places (e.g., $1.234), look at the third deci...
