Introduction & Learning Objectives
Learning Objectives
Identify the x-axis and y-axis on a coordinate graph.
Locate specific points on a graph using ordered pairs.
Read the x-coordinate and y-coordinate for any given point on a graph.
Accurately transfer data from a graph to a two-column table.
Understand how a table represents the same information as a graph.
Recognize simple patterns or relationships between the x and y values from a graph and table.
Have you ever seen a chart that shows how much a plant grows each week? 🌱 How can we take that picture and put it into a neat list of numbers?
In this lesson, you'll learn how to read information from a graph and organize it into a table. This skill helps us understand data better and see patterns, which is super important for solving problems and making...

Key Concepts & Vocabulary
TermDefinitionExample
GraphA visual way to show how two different things are related, often using lines or points on a grid.A graph showing how many apples are picked each hour.
TableAn organized list of information, usually in rows and columns, that helps us see data clearly.A table with one column for 'Hours' and another for 'Apples Picked'.
x-axisThe horizontal line on a graph, usually representing the first value in a pair (like time or input). On a graph showing plant growth, the x-axis might represent 'Days'.
y-axisThe vertical line on a graph, usually representing the second value in a pair (like height or output). On a graph showing plant growth, the y-axis might represent 'Height (cm)'.
Coordinate Pair (Ordered Pair)Two numbers written in par...

Core Formulas
Reading the x-coordinate
To find the x-coordinate of a point, look directly down (or up) from the point to the x-axis.
This tells you the horizontal position of the point. Always read the x-value first.
Reading the y-coordinate
To find the y-coordinate of a point, look directly across (left or right) from the point to the y-axis.
This tells you the vertical position of the point. Always read the y-value second.
Transferring to a Table
For each point (x, y) on the graph, write the x-value in the first column of your table and the y-value in the second column.
Ensure the columns in your table match what the x-axis and y-axis represent on the graph (e.g., 'Time' for x, 'Distance' for y).

Challenging
You are given a table of values:
| x | y |
|---|---|
| 1 | 2 |
| 2 | 4 |
| 3 | 6 |
| 4 | 8 |
Which of the four graphs described below correctly represents this table?
A.graph with points at (2, 1), (4, 2), (6, 3), (8, 4).
B.graph with points at (1, 2), (2, 4), (3, 6), (4, 8).
C.graph with points at (1, 1), (2, 2), (3, 3), (4, 4).
D.graph with points at (1, 2), (2, 3), (3, 4), (4, 5).
Challenging
[A graph shows the number of cars washed. The x-axis 'Day' is scaled 0, 2, 4, 6, 8. The y-axis 'Cars Washed' is scaled 0, 10, 20, 30, 40. There is a point exactly halfway between the x-axis marks for 4 and 6. This point lines up with the y-axis mark for 30.] What table entry corresponds to this point?
A.| Day (x) | Cars Washed (y) |
|---------|-----------------|
| 5 | 30 |
B.| Day (x) | Cars Washed (y) |
|---------|-----------------|
| 4 | 30 |
C.| Day (x) | Cars Washed (y) |
|---------|-----------------|
| 3 | 30 |
D.| Day (x) | Cars Washed (y) |
|---------|-----------------|
| 5 | 25 |
Challenging
[A graph shows points at (1, 3), (2, 6), (3, 8), (4, 12)]. A table is made from this graph. Most of the points follow the rule y = 3 * x. Which point does NOT follow the pattern and should be corrected in the table?
A.(1, 3)
B.(2, 6)
C.(3, 8)
D.(4, 12)
