The Product-Factor Relationship Factor_1 \times Factor_2 = Product This is the fundamental rule. To find numbers with a particular product, you are looking for the factors that multiply together to equal that product. The Commutative Property a \times b = b \times a This rule reminds us that the order of the factors doesn't change the product. When you find one factor pair, like (3, 8), you have also found its reverse, (8, 3). The Systematic Search Method Start with 1, test 2, test 3, ... To make sure you find ALL the factor pairs for a product, always start by testing the number 1. Then, test 2, 3, 4, and so on, until you start repeating factors you've already found.
