Hour HandThe shorter, slower hand on an analog clock that points to the hour.If the short hand points directly at the 3, the hour is 3.
Minute HandThe longer, faster hand on an analog clock that points to the minutes.If the long hand points at the 12, it is the start of a new hour, or 'o'clock'.
Digital TimeTime shown using numbers, with a colon (:) separating the hours and minutes.8:30 is the digital time for 'half past eight'.

Core Formulas
Reading the Minute Hand
Minutes = Number \times 5
To find the minutes, look at the number the long minute hand is pointing to. Multiply that number by 5. For example, if it points to the 4, the minutes are 4 x 5 = 20.
Reading the Hour Hand
Hour = The number it just passed
The hour is the number the short hour hand has just gone past. Even if it's very close to the next number, the hour is still the one it passed. For example, at 6:50, the hour hand is very close to the 7, but the hour is still 6.
Writing Digital Time
Hour : Minutes
To write the time in digital format, write the hour number, then a colon (:), then the minute number. Always write the minutes with two digits (e.g., write 9:05, not 9:5).
