TermDefinitionExample
Mixed NumberA number consisting of a whole number and a proper fraction.4 ½ (four and one-half)
Improper FractionA fraction in which the numerator (top number) is greater than or equal to the denominator (bottom number).9/2 (nine-halves)
Volume of a Rectangular PrismThe amount of three-dimensional space an object occupies, calculated by multiplying its length, width, and height.A box with length 3 in, width 2 in, and height 4 in has a volume of 3 × 2 × 4 = 24 cubic inches.
Surface Area of a CubeThe total area of all the faces of a three-dimensional object. For a cube with side length 's', it is the area of one square face (s²) multiplied by the 6 faces.A cube with a side length of 2 cm has a surface area of 6 × (2 cm)² = 24 square cm.

Core Formulas
Conversion: Mixed Number to Improper Fraction
a \frac{b}{c} = \frac{(a \times c) + b}{c}
To convert a mixed number to an improper fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator, add the numerator, and place the result over the original denominator. This is the mandatory first step before multiplying mixed numbers.
Multiplication of Fractions
\frac{a}{b} \times \frac{c}{d} = \frac{a \times c}{b \times d}
After converting all mixed numbers to improper fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together to get the product.
Volume of a Rectangular Prism Formula
V = l \times w \times h
Use this formula to find the volume (V) of a rectangular prism by multiplying its length (l), width (w), and height (h). If these dimensions are mixed numbers,...
