Core Formulas
Turn-Around Facts (Commutative Property)
a + b = b + a
You can add numbers in any order and get the same sum. So, 4 + 8 is the same as 8 + 4.
Adding Zero
a + 0 = a
When you add zero to any number, the number stays the same. It's like adding nothing! 15 + 0 = 15.
Making a Ten Strategy
9 + 5 = (9 + 1) + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14
Break apart the smaller number to make a ten first. This can make big problems easier to solve.
