The Story
Sofia, who is 9, got some money for her birthday. She saw a small toy she wanted to buy right away. But she also knew if she saved her money for a month, she could afford a much bigger toy she wanted even more. She felt stuck.
Her dad saw her thinking. He asked, "What can you do?" Sofia said, "Buy the small toy now, or save for the big one." Then he asked, "What might happen with each choice?" She realized she would be happy for a day with the small toy, but much happier for weeks with the big one.
"Which one feels right for you?" her dad asked. Sofia decided saving felt better. She chose to wait. A month later, when she bought the big toy, she was so glad she thought it through. She realized that thinking about her choice helped her get what she really wanted.
