1. Indirect Speech (Le Discours Indirect)Rule: To report what someone said, you use an introductory phrase (like il a dit que... (he said that...) [eel ah dee kuh]) and adjust the verb tenses and pronouns. The present tense in direct speech often becomes the imperfect tense in indirect speech.
