Pattern 1: Doubt in the Main ClauseRule: When the main clause of a sentence expresses doubt, uncertainty, or possibility, the verb in the next clause (introduced by 'que' (that) [kuh]) must be in the subjunctive mood. Structure: [Expression of doubt] + que (that) [kuh] + [Subject] + [Verb in Subjunctive]Pattern 2: Certainty vs. UncertaintyRule: Verbs of opinion like penser (to think) [pahn-SAY], croire (to believe) [krwahr], and trouver (to find/think) [troo-VAY] take the indicative when used affirmatively because they express a certainty for the speaker.
