Grammar Rules & Patterns

The Near Future Tense: Le Futur ProcheTo talk about something that's going to happen soon, we use a special formula called the 'near future' or le futur proche (the near future) [luh foo-toor prosh]. It's just like saying "I am going to..." in English.Rule: Subject + the verb aller (to go) [ah-LAY] (changed to match the subject) + action verb (in its original form)The verb aller (to go) [ah-LAY] changes depending on who is talking:Je vais... (I am going to...) [zhuh vay]Tu vas... (You are going to...) [too vah]Il / Elle va... (He / She is going to...) [eel / ell vah]The second verb (the action verb) never changes! It stays in its original 'infinitive' form, like manger (to eat) [mahn-ZHAY], jouer (to play) [zhoo-AY], or finir (to finish) [fee-NEER].
