1. Indirect SpeechUsed to report what someone else said. It often leads to changes in verb tenses and pronouns.Rule: The introductory verb (like dire que (to say that), affirmer que (to affirm that), annoncer que (to announce that)...) is followed by a clause. The verb tense in the clause changes depending on the tense of the introductory verb.Example: Direct Speech: Le ministre a dit : « Nous prendrons (will take) [noo prahn-DROHN] des mesures. » (The minister said: "We will take measures.") → Indirect Speech: Le ministre a dit qu'ils prendraient (would take) [keel prahn-DRAY] des mesures.
