Key Rules & Conventions
Rule 1: Most Nouns
Add -s to the end of the singular noun.
This is the most common way to form regular plural nouns.
Rule 2: Nouns Ending in -s, -x, -ch, -sh, -z
Add -es to the end of the singular noun.
We add -es to make these words easier to pronounce when plural.
Rule 3: Nouns Ending in a Consonant + -y
Change the -y to -i and then add -es.
This rule applies when the letter before the -y is a consonant (not a vowel: a, e, i, o, u).
