Key Rules & Conventions

Rule 1: Most Nouns Add -s to the end of most singular nouns. This is the most common way to form a regular plural noun. Just add an 's'! Rule 2: Nouns ending in -s, -x, -z, -ch, -sh Add -es to the end of singular nouns that end with -s, -x, -z, -ch, or -sh. Adding '-es' makes these words easier to pronounce when they become plural. Rule 3: Nouns ending in a consonant + -y Change the -y to -ies for singular nouns that end with a consonant followed by -y. If the letter before the 'y' is a consonant (like 'b', 'c', 'd', 'f', etc.), you drop the 'y' and add 'ies'.
